Paris! A name which has been a fantasy for many in this world for centuries! The fame of this city of lights has reached far and wide. Even a child will be able to say a few words about Paris. It’s a general misconception that the city of lights means the city with colorful lightings; it actually means the city of bright minds, the city with high number of intellectuals.
The city of Paris has an oval shape. The River Seine flows through the city. It has two islands, Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint-Louis. Paris resembles the shape of a snail shell and is divided into 20 districts, which are called arrondissements. The city experiences extremes of climate, hot summers and harsh winters. Paris lies in a time zone that is 6 hours ahead of EST and 9 hours ahead of PST.
Paris has a 2000 years old history. The original inhabitants of Paris are a Gaulish tribe called Parisii during the pre-Roman era. That’s where the name of the city comes from. However, during the course of time, cultures from several parts of the world have influenced the city and its people. Today, the people of Paris are supposed to be fashionistas and are greatly looked up for their clothing and accessories style. A few top French brands are Channel, Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent and Vuitton. Though it is an expensive city, more and more people love moving to France, especially to Paris every year.
On an average 45 million tourists visit Paris annually. Especially the city is most-liked by couples as it is considered the most romantic city in the world. The Eiffel Tower, The Palace of Versailles, The Louvre Museum, The Notre Dame Cathedral and Arc de Triomphe are awe-inspiring architectures in the city which speak for themselves the aesthetic taste of the French people. Disneyland Paris has become the most visited tourist place in the whole of France, beating the records of the Eiffel Tower. The major festivals celebrated in Paris are Christmas and Bastille Day.
